The Islamic Information and Documentation Center Austria (IIDZ - Austria)is an independent and accredited test and certification body for halal foods and services. Our certifications cover all goods and services for which a halal guarantee has to be ensured for Muslims.
moreFood and services that comply with Islamic regulations are summarised by the term "halal". The term "halal" derives from Arabic and can be translated as "allowed, clean". Food and services which do not comply with Islamic regulations are defined as "haram".
moreOf the 1.3 billion Muslims worldwide ca. 500 000 live in Austria, 4 million in Germany and ca 45 million in Europe. Therefore, requirements result for the industry (food, beverages, cosmetic, clothes etc.) and their suppliers as well as for food marketers such as restaurants, company - school and kindergarten canteens, as well as catering businesses but also the hotel industry, airlines, banks etc. But they also have a business opportunity by marketing goods and services that comply with Muslim religious laws worldwide as well as with the country-specific legal standards.
Upon our initiative, the ON-Rule ONR 142001-1 for Islamic banking was developed at the Austrian Standards Institute. This Europe-wide first normative document for Islamic financial services (IF) was published on May 1st, 2010 and presented to the public at the Concordia Presseclub on May 6th.
